PAULINE L. WOODARD was born November 3, 1935 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of John and Betty (Garcia) Luna. She was raised and received her education in the Lubbock community.

She was united in marriage to Elmer V. Woodard on November 2, 1961 in Lovington, New Mexico. Following their marriage they made their home in Lovington until 1963 when they moved to Salinas, California. In 1978 they moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, on March 2, 1993, after celebrating over thirty-one years of marriage. Following her husband's death, Pauline continued to make her home in Vernonia until 1996 when she moved to Portland.

Pauline was a homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Church, having attended St. Mary's Parish in Vernonia, where she was active in the quilting circle and altar society. Since moving to Portland, Pauline had been attending St. Pius X Parish in Cedar Mill.

Among her interests, Pauline enjoyed hunting, camping and embroidery, having made numerous pillow cases and doilies over the years which she shared with her family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lucy Garcia and Molly M. Rojas.

Pauline passed away June 21, 2003 at the Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert A., Sr. and Mary Lou Aguirre of Salinas, California; David B. Woodard of Portland; Elmer V. Woodard, Jr. of Olympia, Washington; and Matthew S. and Alicia Woodard of Portland; four daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel Aguirre of Portland; Dolores and Lupe Serna of El Paso, Texas; Cindy L. Roberts of Hillsboro; and Betty J. and Deon Dirks of Tualatin; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva and Ruben Valdez of Sacramento, California; Janie and Andy Estrada of Las Vegas, Nevada; Nancy Perez and Christina Luna both of Fresno, California; and three brothers, Santos Luna and John Luna both of Sacramento, California; and Alvino Luna of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.



The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Pauline L. Woodard Memorial Fund, c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church, 960 Missouri Avenue, Vernonia, Oregon 97064, in her memory.
