THOMAS F. TOMLIN OCTOBER 24, 1921 - STITES, IDAHO OCTOBER 31, 1991 - SEASIDE, OREGON
THOMAS FRANCIS TOMLIN, a former Vernonia Postmaster and World War II Veteran, died Thursday, October 31, 1991. He was 70.
Mr. Tomlin was born October 24, 1921, in Stites, Idaho, to Jack and Evelyn Tomlin. He went to high school in Vernonia, where he lived for much of his life. Mr. Tomlin was married September 19, 1942, in Vancouver, Washington, to Lucille Bond, who survives him. Mr. Tomlin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Later, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Vernonia, where he was Postmaster from 1966 to 1980. He also served as a trainer for other Postmasters throughout Oregon and part of Washington, moving to Seaside in 1980 after his retirement. Mr. Tomlin was a member of the First Christian Church and was Past Master of the Vernonia Masonic Lodge. He also served as Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, also of Vernonia. Survivors include: wife, Lucille of Seaside; son and daughter in law, Billy and Gwen, of Arlington, Texas; another son, John, of Seaside; one daughter, Kathy, also of Seaside; three grandsons, Shane, of Arlington, and Scott and Ed, both of Seaside and one grandaughter, Shannon, also of Arlington. Funeral arrangements were made by Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, Seaside Chapel. |
