MARION BERT STEERS was born on December 5, 1910 in Alaska, Ketchikan, one of five children of Marion Bert Steers, Sr. and Mary Winston Steers. Marion and his family lived there until he was 7 years old when they moved to Falls City, Washington, near Seattle. He received all of his education in the Falls City area.

Marion married Ruth Laura Carmichael in Seattle on June 9, 1933. After their marriage they moved to the Vernonia, Oregon area, living near Big Eddy Park for 8 1/2 years and then moving into Vernonia. They had lived at their present home on Stoney Point Road since 1944.

Oregon Centennial Celebration Marion worked his early years in the Vernonia area in the logging industry and then for West Oregon Electric. He then raised turkeys for 11 years and 15 years ago became the Shell Oil company distributor for the Vernonia area and then for the past 3 years for the Union Oil company. For the past 17 years he with his wife had owned and operated the Vernonia Variety Store. He was a member of the Natal Grange and as a hobby had been very active in coin collecting.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Sr. and Mary Steers. Surviving is the widow, Mrs. Ruth Steers, Vernonia; three daughters, Mrs. Lee (Laura) Schamp, Forest Grove; Mrs. W.L. (Mary) Cota and Mrs. Ron (Alice) Smith, both of Vernonia and ten grandchildren. Aslo surviving are two brothers, Cyril Steers, Alaska and Dr. Arthur Steers, St. Louis; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Kuehn and Mrs. J.J. (Lola) Bennet, both of National City, California.
