Clarence New, 90, was born February 6, 1888, Gregory, Kentucky, the son of Andrew J. and Margaret Pendelton New. He spent his early life and received his education in Kentucky. After he finished school he moved to Oilton, Oklahoma, and worked in the oil fields. He then moved for a short time to California before coming to Oregon in 1910.

Mr. New was united in marriage July 3, 1911, to Willa Maude Thacker in Manning, Oregon. After their marriage they lived for a time in Manning and later in Hillsboro before moving to Vernonia in 1925. He worked for the Oregon-American Lumber Company until its closure in 1957. Since that time Mr. New has been retired. He was preceded in death by his wife in April of 1974. Mr. New had led an active life until he became ill and went into the hospital August 16, 1978.

Mr. New died September 1st 1978, at Tuality Community Hospital, Hillsboro, Oregon.

He is survived by five children: Zelma New Wall, Hillsboro; Mrs. Jack (Phyllis) Larson of Vancouver, Washington; Mrs. Thomas (Joyce) Holce of Portland; Malden New, of Dallas, Oregon, and Robert New of Vancouver, Washington; two brothers, James New of Augusta, Georgia, and Leo New of Oilton, Oklahoma. Sister, Leona Godby. Fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchilden also survive. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Thacker New and three children, Wilbur New, Roy New and Leona New Aldrich.

Services and interment were held at IOOF Pioneer Cemetery, Hillsboro, OR, on Wednesday, September 6th, 1978, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Russell Vinyard, pastor of Vernonia Christian Church officiating.
