RUBY EVELYN McDONALD MAY 3, 1921 - GLENWOOD, OREGON JUNE 1, 2005 - HILLSBORO, OREGON
She was united in marriage to Ronald McDonald on February 10, 1940 at Vancouver, Washington. Following their marriage they made their home on Rock Creek, near Keasey. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, on September 21, 1986, after celebrating over forty-five years of marriage. Following her husband's death, Ruby continued to make her home in the Vernonia area until 1997 when she moved to the Jennings-McCall Residential Center in Forest Grove. In 2000, Ruby returned to Vernonia where she lived until March of 2005 when she moved to Hillsboro.
Ruby was a homemaker and a member of the sewing circle at the Vernonia Grange #305. Among her interests, Ruby enjoyed camping, fishing and yardwork. She also enjoyed traveling in their RV, as she and her husband wintered in Bouse, Arizona several years. Ruby loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ora Smith; six brothers, Delbert, Clifford, Wayne, Roscoe, Kenneth, and Donald "Bob" Smith; and three sisters, twins, Maxine Smejkal and Mildred Calhoon, and Beryl Cota. Ruby passed away June 1, 2005 at the First Choice Adult Foster Care Home in Hillsboro. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lanny R. and Judy L. McDonald of Vernonia, Oregon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Ann Smith of Scappoose, Oregon; Raymond and Shirley Smith of Cottage Grove, Oregon; and Ronald and Alice Smith of Vernonia, Oregon; and a sister, Retha John of Sweet Home, Oregon. Also surviving are three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 427 SE 8th Avenue, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123; or to a charity of one's choice, in her memory.
