BERYL BLANCHE COTA APRIL 17, 1919 - GALES CREEK, OREGON FEBRUARY 1, 1997 - HILLSBORO, OREGON She was united in marriage to Raymond Cota on April 17, 1937 in Vancouver, Washington. Following their marriage they resided in the Eugene community. Beryl was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1965, after celebrating over twenty-eight years of marriage together. In 1990 she moved to the Vernonia community, to be near her family, where she resided until she moved to Forest Grove to stay with her grand daughter. Beryl was a homemaker. She raised two of her own children, besides caring for many of her other family members. She had attended the Catholic Church. Among her special interests she enjoyed collecting pigs, having had a collection of over 300. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and working outside in her yard and was known to prune a tree every once in awhile. She enjoyed watching television, especially "E.R.". Beryl was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two twin sisters and one grandchild. Beryl died Saturday, February 1, 1997 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn "Bunny" Simmons of Forest Grove, Oregon; her son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Mary Cota, of Vernonia, Oregon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Ann Smith, of Scappoose, Oregon; Raymond and Shirley Smith, of Creswell, Oregon; and Ronald and Alice Smith, of Vernonia, Oregon; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby McDonald, of Vernonia, Oregon; and Retha Mae and Milo John, of Sweet Home, Oregon. Also surviving are six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggest that remembrances may be contributions to the Doernbecher Children's Foundation, 11212 S.W. Salmon Street, Suite 201, Portland, Oregon 97205-2021, in her memory.
